The RPA market is forecast to grow at double-digit rates for the next 4-5 years, even despite economic instability. This means that the demand for employees capable of working with technology will also increase. Understanding the possibilities of robotization can already now be your key to a radical career change or higher wages in your current workplace.

What an RPA specialist does

To summarize, an RPA specialist is someone who works with the business department to optimize business processes using robotic process automation tools. However, this is a relatively new career path, and business still has a rather narrow understanding of the role of such experts in the company. Therefore, most often, when talking about RPA specialists, people mean RPA developers or, in other interpretations, Automation Developers, Process Designers, or Automation Architects.

What skills an RPA specialist needs

Many people unfairly believe that the RPA career path is suitable only for developers and people with a technical background. This is not entirely true. First of all, creating software robots does not require writing kilometers of code manually – ready-made templates are used in the development process. So even a person with little knowledge of Python or Java can learn how to create bots on their own and program their first software robot.

Furthermore, there are jobs for more than just engineers in RPA. A rare RPA project will be complete without such specialists as a project manager, analyst, tester, automation director. And these roles don’t require extensive programming knowledge.

Where to study to become an RPA specialist

There are tons of free resources for learning RPA today, from blog posts like Telegram to online videos on YouTube. But self-study on them is usually haphazard and not very high quality. As a result, even after watching a couple of dozen videos about, for instance, UiPath programming, it will be very difficult to call yourself an RPA specialist.

So if you really want to start your RPA career, it’s best to join a pre-made study course at one of the online universities. The curriculum of the courses is designed in such a way that you have mastered and systematized all the skills and knowledge required at your stage of the study. A diploma or certificate of their completion can be used in the process of finding a job or to confirm the acquired qualifications. It’s better to start with a general course on Robotic Process Automation and learn the principles of work with at least one of the popular RPA platforms.
